Pueblo, Colorado — Strong and potentially damaging winds are expected across the Pueblo area Friday as a cold front moves through southern Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a High Wind Watch is in effect Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for portions of southern Colorado. While the strongest winds are expected across the southeast plains, including Kiowa County, Pueblo and surrounding communities may still experience gusts in the 45 to 55 mph range, with isolated gusts over 60 mph possible in nearby areas.

Forecasters say winds will increase rapidly late Friday morning, peaking through the afternoon hours behind the cold front. Winds will generally be from the west to northwest, creating hazardous conditions on open roadways and east–west routes.

These conditions may make travel difficult for high-profile vehicles, including semis, RVs, and trailers. Blowing dust and unsecured debris are also possible, especially across open terrain.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, such as trash bins and lightweight equipment, and to use caution if traveling during peak wind periods. While widespread power outages are not expected, isolated disruptions are possible where winds are strongest.

Winds are expected to gradually weaken Friday evening as the cold front continues south.

This alert is especially relevant for daytime commuters, commercial drivers, construction crews, and agricultural operations, as the strongest winds will coincide with typical work and travel hours.
