Pueblo, Colo. – Heavy rain and strong storms are expected to keep much of southern Colorado on alert through Tuesday as monsoon moisture fuels the risk of flash flooding. The National Weather Service says repeated downpours could quickly overwhelm already saturated ground, especially across Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Walsenburg, and Trinidad.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, widespread showers and storms will continue to form this afternoon and evening, bringing the potential for one inch of rainfall in short bursts. The risk of flash flooding is highest in areas near burn scars, low-lying roads, and creek crossings. Hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts near 60 mph are also possible with the strongest cells.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads, as just 12 inches of moving water can carry vehicles off the pavement. Emergency officials recommend moving to higher ground when warnings are issued and checking multiple sources for updates as conditions can shift rapidly.

The threat of flash flooding remains elevated through Tuesday night, with additional advisories likely if storms persist into midweek.
