Pueblo, CO – Strong and damaging winds are sweeping across Colorado, with gusts reaching up to 80 mph in some areas, prompting a High Wind Warning through Wednesday morning. The warning affects the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the San Luis Valley, portions of the I-25 corridor, and the southeast plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, powerful west winds will persist through Tuesday evening, with gusts of 65 mph expected in the San Luis Valley and surrounding regions. A cold front arriving overnight will shift winds to the north, with speeds of 60-70 mph possible through midday Wednesday in El Paso County and the far southeast plains.
These strong winds pose significant travel hazards, particularly for high-profile vehicles and areas prone to blowing dust or snow. Dangerous crosswinds and reduced visibility are expected, making driving conditions difficult along I-25 and other exposed roadways.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for possible power outages due to falling tree limbs or power lines. The strongest winds are expected to subside by Wednesday afternoon, but breezy conditions may linger.
For real-time updates, travelers should check road conditions with CDOT and monitor alerts from the National Weather Service.
