Pueblo, Colo. – Afternoon thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across southern Colorado today, with outflow winds up to 50 mph, frequent lightning, and small hail expected in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, isolated to widely scattered storms will first develop along the mountains by early afternoon, then move east into valleys and plains through the early evening. While most areas will see seasonal highs and partly cloudy skies, stronger cells may bring short bursts of heavy rain.

Cities along the I-25 corridor — including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Trinidad — may face brief hazardous weather conditions through 8 p.m. Tuesday. West of the corridor, communities near Salida, Westcliffe, and Alamosa could also see storm activity forming over the higher terrain before drifting downslope. Flash flooding isn’t likely, but gusty winds and lightning remain key hazards for campers, hikers, and drivers on mountain passes like U.S. 160 and U.S. 50.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid open areas during thunderstorms. If you hear thunder, move indoors immediately.

Storm activity is expected to taper off after sunset, but another round of afternoon storms is possible Wednesday.
