Pueblo, Colorado – Isolated thunderstorms could intensify into severe storms Friday across eastern Colorado, with gusty winds up to 60 mph and the potential for quarter-size hail threatening afternoon and evening plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms are expected to begin developing by midday over the northern San Luis Valley, Pikes Peak region, and eastern mountains before shifting eastward into the plains. The greatest risk for severe activity lies in the far eastern counties, including Springfield, Lamar, and Burlington, where storms may become more organized by late afternoon.

The primary hazard will be damaging straight-line winds capable of downing small trees and power lines. A few stronger storms could also drop hail up to one inch in diameter. While the tornado threat remains low, residents are advised to monitor weather updates, especially if traveling east of I-25.

Those with outdoor plans should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Areas of concern include U.S. Route 50 and Highway 287 corridors, where visibility may quickly deteriorate in wind-driven downpours.

Storms are expected to taper off late tonight, but additional alerts could follow if the system intensifies further eastward.
