Pueblo, Colorado – Triple-digit heat and the threat of severe thunderstorms will persist across eastern Colorado through early next week, with Kiowa County at risk for strong storms and flash flooding by Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected daily, with the most intense activity likely Sunday afternoon and evening. The highest chances for strong to severe storms will center over northeast Colorado, particularly Kiowa County, where locally heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding. Temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and low 100s across the southeastern plains, increasing storm energy.
Cities including La Junta, Lamar, Springfield, and Eads should prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Lightning, strong wind gusts, and heavy downpours are possible with these storms. Motorists are urged to avoid low-lying roads during downpours, and residents should charge devices and secure outdoor items ahead of the storm window.
Storm chances remain elevated through Tuesday, especially along and east of the mountains. More watches or warnings could be issued as conditions evolve.
