Kendall, IL – A new road improvement project is underway at the intersection of US 52 and County Line Road in Troy Township, located on the border of Kendall and Will Counties. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has completed Phase I of the project, which includes preliminary engineering and environmental studies. The main goal of the project is to build a roundabout to improve traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection.
According to IDOT, this proposed roundabout is part of the department’s larger highway improvement program, included in the FY 2025-2030 plan. The roundabout aims to address safety and mobility issues at the intersection, which is located approximately 3.5 miles west of Interstate 55 and 3.5 miles north of Interstate 80. The intersection serves both the Villages of Shorewood and Minooka, as well as the surrounding areas of Seward and Troy Townships.
The project is divided into three phases, with Phase I already completed. The next phases, which will depend on funding and planning readiness, aim to begin construction in the coming years. IDOT has noted that the timeline for these next stages will depend on future funding appropriations and legislative approvals.
This improvement is expected to ease traffic congestion and enhance safety at the intersection, ultimately benefiting the local communities.
