Wheaton, Ill. — At the City Council meeting on June 16, Mayor Phillip Suess declared the week of June 16 through 22 as “Pride Week” in the City of Wheaton.
The Pride Proclamation read by Suess acknowledges the efforts of Wheaton to be a welcoming community and the diversity already in the community. The proclamation continued to note that all community members should feel safe. It recognized the principles of equality, religious liberty and justice as foundational to the country. Also acknowledging that the month of June as Pride Month, Wheaton noted that celebrating it supports the LGBTQ+ community.
The City of Wheaton said that it “stands against intolerance and hate of any kind.” Therefore, the proclamation finished by saying that Pride Week, starting June 16, will promote liberty for all residents.
“The City of Wheaton calls upon all residents to work together year-round toward building a community based on respect for one another, honoring each other’s beliefs and values,” the proclamation ended.
The Pride Proclamation was dated June 16, signed by Mayor Suess and attested by the County Clerk. A video recording from the City Council meeting can be found online along with a copy of the Pride Proclamation.
