Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is facing dangerously cold weather tonight, with sub-zero wind chills expected and accumulating snow starting late Sunday. Residents are urged to prepare for hazardous travel as conditions deteriorate.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, temperatures will drop to as low as -10°F tonight, with wind chills plunging to -15°F or colder. A clear sky will give way to increasing cloud cover Sunday, bringing heavy snow by evening. Roadways like I-75 and M-32 may become treacherous due to slippery conditions and reduced visibility.

Sunday’s high will reach only 21°F before snow begins late, with accumulations expected to range between 6 and 12 inches by Monday. Snowfall will peak Monday afternoon, accompanied by gusty winds. Travelers should allow extra time and ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency kits.

The bitter cold and icy conditions are expected to persist into Christmas, with highs hovering around 30°F through midweek. Monday night may see additional snow showers, with another 1 to 3 inches of accumulation possible.

Meteorologists recommend limiting time outdoors tonight and through the weekend, as frostbite can occur in minutes with the current wind chills. Ensure pets and livestock are sheltered.
