Poughkeepsie, NY – A 49-year-old man was arrested after a narcotics investigation on the city’s North Side, authorities said.
According to the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, Jermaine Thomas, 49, of Poughkeepsie, was taken into custody March 25 at College Hill Park without incident following an investigation into alleged crack cocaine sales.
Officials said Drug Task Force agents conducted multiple controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Thomas at various locations across the North Side during the investigation. Authorities identified him as an alleged dealer operating in the area prior to the arrest.
At the time of his arrest, investigators reported Thomas allegedly possessed multiple bags of crack cocaine packaged for sale, along with scales and U.S. currency.
With assistance from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, agents executed a search warrant at a residence on Winnikee Avenue. Additional evidence related to the alleged sale of narcotics was recovered, according to officials.
Thomas was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a class B felony, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, a class C felony. Authorities said additional charges may be pending.
He was arraigned in the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
District Attorney Anthony P. Parisi said the arrest followed a collaborative investigation among local law enforcement agencies targeting illegal drug distribution.
The case may be relevant to local residents and commuters due to ongoing enforcement activity in neighborhood areas.
