Portland, Oregon – Oregonians are bracing for intense, potentially dangerous heat as temperatures soar toward 100 degrees in Portland, Salem, Eugene, and the Columbia River Gorge through 10 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for the entire Greater Portland-Vancouver Metro, the Willamette Valley, Hood River Valley, and surrounding areas. Wednesday is expected to be the hottest day, with a 30-60% chance that cities across western Oregon hit triple digits.

City officials in Portland and Salem are urging residents to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, use fans or air conditioning, and check on vulnerable neighbors. In Eugene and Albany, schools and libraries are offering cooling centers as heat-related illnesses can spike quickly during events like this. Drivers are warned never to leave children or pets in vehicles, as car interiors become deadly within minutes.

Health experts recommend drinking extra water, wearing loose clothing, and limiting outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours. OSHA advises frequent breaks for outdoor workers and immediate action if signs of heat exhaustion appear.

Temperatures are expected to ease after Wednesday night, but advisories may extend if conditions persist. Residents should monitor local updates and remain alert for additional warnings.
