Portland, Ore. – Dangerous late-August heat continues across western Oregon and southwest Washington, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and overnight lows staying well above average through early Tuesday. The National Weather Service warns that the heat will be most intense in the Cascades and Coast Range valleys, where relief will be limited overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Tuesday for the South Washington Cascades, the Northern and Central Oregon Cascades, and Coast Range valleys. Highs could reach 95°F with nighttime lows only dipping into the upper 60s. For the North and Central Coast Range mountains and the Willapa Hills, the advisory will expire earlier, at 5 a.m. Monday, but residents there will still see highs around 90°F Sunday evening.

Communities including Vernonia, Grand Ronde, Government Camp, and Cathlamet are expected to face continued hot afternoons and warm nights. Health officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and use fans or cooled public spaces if air conditioning is unavailable.

Travelers should also take precautions—children and pets should never be left in vehicles, where interior temperatures can become deadly within minutes.

The heat is expected to ease gradually by midweek, though advisories may be extended if conditions persist.
