Portland, Oregon – Rainy roads and mountain travel delays are expected across northwest Oregon this Thanksgiving Eve, with steady showers falling in Portland and slick conditions persisting in the surrounding Cascades through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, freezing rain and snow are impacting higher elevations, especially over the Washington Cascades, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. While Portland remains too warm for winter precipitation, holiday travelers headed east toward Hood River or into central Oregon should be prepared for ice or snow over passes like Santiam and Government Camp.
Locally, Portland will continue to see rain and breezy conditions through the day, potentially slowing airport traffic and local commutes. Winds are expected to remain under 20 mph, with temperatures staying above freezing overnight.
Travelers are urged to check road and pass conditions before driving into the mountains and allow extra time for delays. The most treacherous travel window is expected to end by midmorning Wednesday, ahead of a drier Thanksgiving Day.
Additional advisories may be issued if colder air pushes farther west overnight.
