Portland, OR – Western Oregon is sweltering under an extreme heat warning with dangerously high temperatures expected to persist through 10 p.m. Tuesday, pushing daytime highs between 97 and 105 degrees across the region. Overnight lows will remain unusually warm, in the upper 60s, offering little relief for residents without air conditioning.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the warning covers the greater Portland and Vancouver metro areas, the Columbia River Gorge, the Hood River Valley, central and southern Willamette Valley, and foothill communities in the northern and central Oregon Cascades. The combination of prolonged heat and warm nights increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations.

Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon heat, drink plenty of water, and check on neighbors and relatives. Those without air conditioning should use fans, keep windows closed during the day, and open them at night when air quality allows. Drivers are reminded never to leave children or pets in vehicles, as interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.

The heat warning remains in effect until Tuesday night, with cooler, more seasonable temperatures expected midweek. Additional alerts could be issued if conditions persist.
