Oregon’s morning fog is clinging to Portland, softening the skyline and dampening roads as temperatures sit near 39 degrees. Visibility has improved from earlier, but pavement remains slick and more rain is on the way by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, rain becomes likely later today with highs near 48 degrees. Showers taper briefly tonight, then Sunday brings a break with partial sun and highs climbing to 52. That dry window won’t last long.

Rain redevelops Sunday night and continues into President’s Day Monday, when highs hover near 45 degrees and precipitation chances rise to around 80 percent. Snow levels lower to roughly 1,800 feet Monday, then drop closer to 1,400 feet Monday night into Tuesday morning.

That puts the West Hills and higher elevations on alert for a rain-snow mix. While most valley neighborhoods see mainly rain, brief wet snow could mix in early Tuesday as lows dip into the mid-30s. Even without accumulation, slick bridges and overpasses along I-5 and I-205 are possible.

Plan extra time for the Monday commute and keep headlights on during heavier showers. This is prime season for patchy refreezing if temperatures briefly slip near freezing before daybreak.

Showers linger into midweek with highs in the mid-40s. By late next week, longer-range trends suggest a gradual warming pattern, bringing milder February afternoons and early spring vibes to western Oregon.
