Porter County, IN – An outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) is currently affecting the white-tailed deer population in Porter County, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The viral disease, transmitted by biting midges, has been confirmed in multiple counties, including Porter, with deer exhibiting symptoms such as lethargy, excessive salivation, and disorientation.

According to the Indiana DNR, the outbreak began earlier this summer, with confirmed cases in several counties. The disease, often fatal to deer, tends to worsen following a wet spring and hot, dry fall. Residents who encounter deer showing signs of EHD are urged to report sightings via the state’s online Sick Animal Reporting Form.
