Valparaiso, IN – A Travel Advisory is now in effect for unincorporated areas of Porter County as of 4:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, due to hazardous winter driving conditions. The Porter County Emergency Management Agency said the advisory will remain active until further notice as blowing and drifting snow continue to affect rural roads.
Officials warn that road surfaces are snow-covered and slippery, particularly in open and rural stretches outside city limits. Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds, and avoid unnecessary travel where possible. The advisory applies specifically to unincorporated areas—roads that fall outside municipal boundaries of cities and towns such as Valparaiso, Chesterton, and Hebron.
According to the agency, routine travel or outdoor activities may be restricted in certain areas until conditions improve. Crews are working to clear main routes, but drifting snow and reduced visibility remain concerns early Monday.
Motorists should monitor local weather updates and road advisories throughout the day as conditions may change rapidly with ongoing snow and wind gusts.
