Portage, IN – A reported incident of a child being approached by a stranger in Portage has been deemed unsubstantiated. On Thursday, Portage Police and school officials took the report seriously, activating safety protocols that put schools on lockdown.
According to the Portage Police Department, detectives interviewed the student and a witness, reviewed video footage, and thoroughly searched the area. Officers found no evidence of any contact between the child and any person. Police confirmed that no abduction was attempted.
Portage Township Schools promptly initiated secure safety protocols, placing buildings in lockout status as a precaution. Once the police concluded their investigation, the safety protocol was lifted, and schools resumed normal operations.
