Portage, IN – A fatal rollover crash on Thursday claimed the life of 18-year-old Kaelyn Kaszubski of Porter, IN, on State Road 149.

The Portage Police Department reported the accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 149 and County Road 1000 North. Officers found a silver Toyota Rav 4 in a ditch on the west side of the road. A juvenile driver suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital shortly after. Kaszubski, the passenger, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Portage Police Department’s crash reconstruction team, the Toyota was traveling northbound on State Road 149 when another vehicle attempted a left turn from westbound County Road 1000 North, entering the Toyota’s path. The driver swerved to avoid a collision but lost control, causing the vehicle to strike several trees and roll over.

The adult male driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and consented to chemical testing. Preliminary results indicate that drugs or alcohol were not contributing factors.

State Road 149 was closed for several hours and reopened around 5:00 p.m.
