Portage, IN – A startling discovery of live explosives in a Portage apartment building led to an urgent response from local authorities on Thursday morning. The Portage Police Department was alerted around 11:50 am to the presence of these dangerous items in the 5800 block of Creekview Court. A family, while sorting through a deceased relative’s belongings, found the military ordnance and promptly reported it.

Upon confirmation of the live explosives, officers evacuated the building to ensure public safety. The Porter County Bomb Squad was swiftly called to the scene and successfully removed the explosives for safe disposal. The situation was resolved by 2:15 pm, allowing residents to safely return to their homes.
