Portage County, OH – A stolen vehicle was recovered and a suspect taken into custody Saturday morning following a brief police pursuit that began in Ravenna Township and ended in the city of Streetsboro.
According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report at approximately 10:43 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, of a vehicle stolen on Bridge Street in Ravenna Township. Shortly afterward, a motorist reported a vehicle driving recklessly along State Route 14, matching the description of the stolen car.
Deputies from the Patrol Division, along with a K-9 handler, responded to the area and located the vehicle. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled, continuing eastbound on SR 14 toward Streetsboro.
Authorities say the pursuit ended once the K-9 handler prepared to use a Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T.) maneuver. At that point, the suspect stopped the vehicle and surrendered without further incident. The arrest occurred at approximately 10:53 a.m., less than 15 minutes after the initial report.
The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Jamie Peer of Atwater Township. According to the sheriff’s office, Peer was transported to the Portage County Jail and charged with multiple offenses, including failure to comply, theft of a motor vehicle, operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI), OVI refusal, driving under suspension, and reckless operation. All charges are allegations and remain pending in court.
Deputies said the stolen vehicle was recovered within minutes and returned to the victim, who expressed gratitude for the quick response.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office also credited the Streetsboro Police Department for assisting during the incident and emphasized the importance of citizen reports in helping resolve crimes quickly.
