Ravenna, OH – Authorities in Portage County responded to a tense situation December 1 after an alleged in-progress burglary along Infirmary Road led to a standoff inside a resident’s home. Deputies said an unknown woman had reportedly entered the house and refused to leave, prompting the homeowner to call 911.

According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, members of multiple divisions arrived and first ensured all residents were safely outside. When deputies entered the property, they determined the woman had allegedly barricaded herself inside an upstairs bedroom and was refusing repeated commands to surrender.

Officials said more than 30 minutes of negotiations passed with no progress. Deputies then deployed less-lethal chemical munitions into the bedroom, which prompted the suspect—identified by authorities as Christina Johnson of Ravenna—to surrender without further incident.

The Sheriff’s Office described the response as a coordinated effort involving Patrol, Warrants, Detective Bureau, School Resource Officers, K-9, Drone operations, the Tactical Response Team, Civil Division, and the Drug and Violent Crime Unit. Johnson was then booked into the Portage County Jail for the second time within 30 hours and charged with trespass in habitation and resisting arrest.

Authorities said Johnson was later released on December 8 on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond issued by Judge Pittman, along with conditions. She was transported from the jail using the county’s bussing service for released individuals.

Deputies reminded residents that once individuals are released per court order, the Sheriff’s Office no longer has custodial responsibility. Officials added that transportation options are offered to all released persons, though some choose alternative means.
