London, AR – A routine traffic stop on Interstate 40 near London led to a major drug seizure Tuesday after Arkansas State Police reportedly discovered more than 448 pounds of illegal marijuana inside a vehicle.

According to the Arkansas State Police, a trooper pulled over a 2008 Toyota on November 26 for a traffic violation in Pope County. During the stop, authorities said a search of the vehicle uncovered 17 large trash bags filled with approximately 448 pounds of illegal marijuana. Troopers also reported finding an additional bag containing what is believed to be cocaine.

The driver, identified by ASP as Tuan Nmi Tran, 57, was taken into custody following the discovery. According to investigators, Tran allegedly transported the drugs along I-40 before being stopped near the London exit. He was arrested at the scene and transported to the Pope County Detention Center. Formal charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues.

ASP released a photo showing dozens of large black plastic bags stacked across a room, alongside an Interstate 40 road sign displayed for scale. The agency said the seizure represents one of the larger drug hauls in the region this year.

Interstate 40 remains one of Arkansas’ busiest corridors for cross-country drug trafficking, according to state officials, who emphasized that routine traffic enforcement often leads to significant discoveries.

Authorities have not released additional details about the suspected distribution route or the potential street value of the narcotics. The case remains under investigation.
