Pontiac, Mich. – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help after a 19-year-old man from Warren was found shot to death in Pontiac early Wednesday morning. Deputies are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigators continue to search for a suspect.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Cornelius Traves Murphy Jr. was discovered in a field near North Jessie Road and Michigan Avenue after a neighbor called authorities. Investigators believe the fatal shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff Michael Bouchard said Murphy suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

“We have some ideas, but it’s still early,” Bouchard said. “We could use the public’s help if they saw or heard anything. We want to hold the person responsible accountable.”

Murphy’s family told WXYZ that his car and body were found in different locations, adding to the mystery surrounding his death. Relatives described the 19-year-old as ambitious, hardworking, and deeply loved by his siblings and cousins.

“My brother did everything. He was loved by everybody,” said Ariel Hunter, Murphy’s sister. “We want to know what happened. We’re trying to put together the pieces.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. A $2,000 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest.
