Channahon, IL – A Channahon man allegedly planned to place a pipe bomb in a Halloween candy bowl for neighborhood children, police said. Authorities arrested Bill Fossett, 37, after a search of his home in October uncovered a partially assembled pipe bomb. Although the device lacked explosives, police also seized 200 rounds of ammunition and two grams of methamphetamine from the property.
According to police, Fossett admitted he intended to use the pipe bomb to retaliate against children who he claimed were disturbing him. He told officers local kids had been sneaking into his home and making loud noises, which he found unsettling.
Fossett faces multiple charges, including possession of a destructive device and drug possession. Police determined the pipe bomb materials posed no immediate threat, though officials cited serious concerns about his intentions for the device on Halloween.
