Frenchtown Township, MI – An 85-year-old Alzheimer’s patient was safely recovered Monday after wandering from an elderly care facility. Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 2:48 p.m. to the 2500 block of North Monroe Street. Deputies initiated a search after reports of the missing man in the area.
According to Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the department utilized both a K9 unit and a drone to assist with the search. Deputy Danny Greenwood and his police dog, Arlo, quickly tracked the man. Arlo picked up a scent and led officers north, toward a nearby fence line by a lawn care business.
The patient was found on the ground, unable to rise due to a fall. Frenchtown Township Fire Department personnel, along with Monroe Community Ambulance, provided immediate medical aid at the scene. Emergency responders then transported him to Promedica Monroe Hospital. Authorities report he is expected to recover from minor injuries.
