Vernon, CT – A 40-year-old man was rescued Saturday afternoon after becoming stuck head-first inside a playground slide at Northeast Elementary School in Vernon, Connecticut.
According to the Town of Vernon Fire Department, emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 4:30 p.m. for a confined space rescue involving a tube slide. Upon arrival, first responders found the man wedged upside down in the middle portion of the enclosed slide structure.
Fire officials said the man was in visible discomfort due to both his position and the extreme heat inside the slide. EMS provided oxygen on site, and crews set up ventilation to help cool the space while firefighters worked to reach him. Additional support was brought in from Rescue 141 and Tower 541 to assist with the complex extrication.
Tower 541 utilized an aerial ladder to stabilize the slide from a nearby grassy area while Rescue 141 deployed specialized tools to remove part of the slide’s structure and reach the patient.
The man was freed within 30 minutes and evaluated by EMS personnel at the scene. He refused further medical treatment and declined transportation to a hospital.
