Plattsburgh, NY – A round of freezing rain is creating slippery roads across parts of northern New York and northwest Vermont Wednesday morning, raising travel concerns through early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. Wednesday for portions of the North Country, including Clinton, Franklin, and St. Lawrence counties in New York, along with Grand Isle County in Vermont.

Communities impacted include Plattsburgh, Massena, Malone, Potsdam, Ogdensburg, Tupper Lake, Champlain, and South Hero. Forecasters expect ice accumulations ranging from a light glaze up to one tenth of an inch, especially in areas near and north of Route 11, where colder surface temperatures are lingering longer.

Even small ice amounts can create hazardous conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks. The icy mix may affect the Wednesday morning commute, particularly along routes such as Interstate 87 near Plattsburgh and U.S. Route 11 across northern New York.

Temperatures are expected to gradually climb above freezing by Wednesday afternoon, helping improve travel conditions as precipitation tapers off.

Drivers and pedestrians are urged to move cautiously, as icy sidewalks, driveways, and stairways could increase the risk of slips and falls until temperatures rise later today.
