Platte City, MO – An 18-year-old suspect was taken into custody Friday morning after a high-speed pursuit through Platte County ended in a crash on Interstate 29 near 64th Street, according to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Captain Jeffrey Shanks, the incident began around 8:10 a.m. on October 10, 2025, when deputies were alerted to a possible intoxicated driver in a stolen 2006 silver Dodge Ram traveling southbound on MO 45 Highway. Deputies located the vehicle about 10 minutes later and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit.

The suspect continued fleeing along MO 45 and MO 273 Highways, avoiding a tire-deflation device before merging onto southbound I-29. The chase continued until a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver near 64th Street, causing the truck to crash and ending the pursuit.

Authorities said the driver, an 18-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Platte County Detention Center on a 24-hour investigative hold. No officers were injured.

Multiple agencies assisted, including the Weston Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kansas City Police Department, and Riverside Police Department. Sheriff Erik Holland commended their coordination, stating he appreciated the efforts that ensured the pursuit ended safely.
