Plainfield, IL – A 13-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday after a collision involving a mini motorcycle and a car at a busy Plainfield intersection.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, officers and Plainfield Fire Protection District personnel responded around 4:51 p.m. to the intersection of Springview Drive and Crossing Drive for a reported serious traffic crash. First responders found the juvenile lying in the intersection next to a Honda Z50R mini motorcycle, while a 2008 Honda Accord was stopped just north of the intersection.

Police said officers rendered aid to the boy until fire personnel arrived. The juvenile was initially transported to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet before being transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago for life-threatening injuries.

According to the initial investigation, the Honda Accord was heading north on Crossing Drive through the intersection as the Honda Z50R, driven by the juvenile, traveled eastbound on Springview Drive. Authorities allege the Honda Z50R did not yield the right-of-way, resulting in a collision with the rear driver’s side of the Accord.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office assisted in reconstructing the crash, and the incident remains under investigation. Police said no further updates on the juvenile’s condition were available at the time of the report.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Sergeant Dino Dabezic at (815) 267-7238.
