Pittsburgh, PA – Residents can join CitiParks, Pittsburgh’s Parks & Recreation Department, and the Anglers Fishing Club of Pittsburgh for free youth fishing at Lake Carnegie in Highland Park through the year. The event typically runs from noon to 2p.m., weather permitting.

Anglers of all ages can learn to fish alongside their community. The event pairs young anglers with experienced mentors, allows them to fish with licensed adults, and promotes safety.

“The program is motivated by families seeking to strengthen their relationships through outdoor experiences like fishing,” the Anglers Fishing Club said in a statement. “The experience gained from the preparation, execution and follow through of fishing is what we believe can help fill the relational void affecting urban families.”

Free youth fishing events are held throughout the year through the efforts of CitiParks, the Anglers Fishing Club, and Fishburgh, an organization that offers free fishing education and community building.

A back-to-school fishing day event starts on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lake Point Shelter. The first 100 kids receive free pencils, tackle box food, drinks, and school supplies. The event will also feature music and raffle prizes.

Free youth fishing times will shift to 4-6 p.m. starting Aug. 27 and continue through the year. For updates or more information, participants should contact the Anglers Fishing Club or CitiParks.
