Pittsburgh, PA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh says a quick-moving weather system will bring light accumulating snow to western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia early Thursday morning, potentially creating slippery conditions for commuters.

After a quiet and partly sunny Wednesday, snow is expected to develop after midnight, first along the I-80 corridor, then spreading south through Pittsburgh, Zanesville, and Wheeling around 3 a.m., before reaching Morgantown by 6 a.m. Forecasters expect light accumulation, generally around a half-inch to one inch, with isolated higher amounts possible.

According to the NWS, the snow should taper off by late morning, though a few flurries or light snow showers may linger into the afternoon. Despite the low totals, the timing could cause slick spots on untreated roads, particularly before and during the morning rush hour.

Forecast maps show a 40–60% probability of at least 1 inch of snow across areas including Butler, Latrobe, Indiana, and Uniontown, with lower chances closer to the Ohio border. Temperatures will remain in the upper 20s to low 30s during the event, cold enough for roads to become icy in places.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads. The NWS reminds drivers that even light snow can quickly reduce traction and visibility during the early commute.

Conditions will improve Thursday afternoon as skies clear and drier air moves in from the west.
