PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Residents across southwest Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia should expect a few isolated pop-up showers or thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, with the highest chances along the ridges in Fayette and Somerset counties. The National Weather Service reports Pittsburgh’s storm chance at about 21 percent this evening, while Elkins, W.Va., tops the list at 33 percent.

According to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office, higher rain chances will arrive late tonight into Wednesday as a low-pressure system tracks through the region. Locations from Morgantown to Cumberland could see a noticeable uptick in precipitation, with the heaviest activity possible by early Wednesday morning.

Drivers in ridge-top communities may face slick roads during the evening commute, and localized downpours could briefly reduce visibility. Residents should keep devices charged in case of power interruptions, especially in rural areas prone to outages during thunderstorms.

Rain and thunderstorm chances will remain elevated through Wednesday before conditions begin to improve toward the end of the week. Additional advisories may be issued as the system approaches.
