Pittsburgh, PA – Western Pennsylvania will face dangerous travel conditions and bitter cold over the next 24 to 48 hours as strong winds, lake-effect snow, and plunging wind chills sweep through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

A cold front moving through today will bring gusty showers late Wednesday morning into early afternoon, followed by a sharp temperature drop and northwest winds gusting up to 45 mph.

The Weather Service warns that travel north of I-80—including areas near Clarion, Franklin, and Greenville—could be hazardous from tonight into Friday as lake-effect snow develops, producing bursts of accumulation and reduced visibility.

By early Thanksgiving morning, temperatures will plunge into the teens, with wind chills in the single digits across much of the area. Lower elevations such as Pittsburgh, Wheeling, and Morgantown will remain breezy and dry, while mountain and lake-effect zones could see continued snow through Thursday.

Officials urge drivers to delay travel if possible and prepare for icy, wind-blown conditions on elevated and rural roads.
