Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Gardeners and growers across western Pennsylvania have just hours to act as temperatures drop to near freezing by midnight, putting sensitive plants at risk through the Thursday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory are in effect from midnight until 10 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures are expected to fall to around 30–32°F in parts of the region, especially across higher elevations and rural valleys.

The greatest impact is expected in eastern ridge areas of Pennsylvania and parts of northern West Virginia, including Morgantown and Preston County, where a full freeze could damage early-season vegetation. Areas under a frost advisory, including portions of Marion and Wetzel counties, may still see patchy frost capable of harming exposed plants.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive outdoor vegetation immediately. Potted plants, early crops, and flowering trees are especially vulnerable during this cold snap.

Conditions will improve after mid-morning Thursday as temperatures rise, but additional advisories remain possible if clear skies and calm winds return later this week.
