Pittsburgh, Pa. – Thunderstorms moving across western Pennsylvania could bring heavy rain, patchy fog, and travel hazards for Pittsburgh commuters through Wednesday night. Roads may be slick with poor visibility, particularly during the early morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service, storms are most likely before 8 a.m. Wednesday, with scattered showers continuing through midday. Patchy fog may develop overnight into early Wednesday, keeping visibility low for drivers across Allegheny County and neighboring areas. Rainfall amounts will generally stay under a tenth of an inch but could be heavier in isolated downpours.
Light winds out of the southwest will shift northeast by Thursday, when another round of showers and storms may form after 2 p.m. Conditions should gradually clear by Friday, with highs in the mid-80s and sunshine returning into the weekend.
Residents are urged to allow extra travel time during morning commutes, avoid driving through standing water, and prepare for sudden visibility drops if fog forms. Power outages remain unlikely but can’t be ruled out during stronger storms.
Storm chances taper off Thursday night before a stretch of clear, warm weather takes over through early next week.
