Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Flooded roadways and rising stream levels are creating immediate hazards across Allegheny County as heavy rain overwhelms drainage systems late Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 12:45 a.m. Friday, with around 1 inch of rainfall falling in a short period. Urban areas, including downtown Pittsburgh, Dormont, and Monroeville, are already seeing rapid water rises on roads and in low-lying spots.

Key corridors such as I-376, Route 51, and local surface streets near the Monongahela and Ohio rivers could become impassable as it accumulates quickly warn that even shallow water can stall vehicles or sweep them off the road, especially in underpasses and poor drainage zones.

Neighborhoods including Moon Run, Bellevue, and Whitehall are particularly vulnerable, where runoff can quickly flood intersections and smaller streams may overflow their banks within minutes.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, move to higher ground if water begins rising, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. Emergency crews may be delayed due to ongoing storms and road closures.

The warning remains active until 12:45 a.m., and additional alerts could follow if heavy rain continues or new storms develop overnight.
