Pittsburgh, PA – Snow showers and freezing temperatures are set to arrive in Pittsburgh Thursday evening, adding potential travel hazards for residents. Drivers are urged to prepare for icy conditions, as temperatures will remain below freezing for most of the week.

According to the National Weather Service, Pittsburgh is under a Cold Weather Advisory until Wednesday afternoon. By Thursday, a new weather system will bring snow showers after 1 p.m., with highs reaching 27°F during the day but dropping to 13°F overnight. Wind chills could make it feel as cold as -1°F. Residents should use caution on untreated roads and sidewalks, particularly during the evening commute.

The snow will taper off by Friday morning, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 24°F expected. Friday night will see lows drop to 8°F. Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday brings some relief with a high near 30°F under partly sunny skies. Sunday could see a mix of clouds and snow showers, with daytime highs reaching 35°F.

The cold temperatures this week pose risks for frostbite and hypothermia. Officials recommend layering clothing, covering exposed skin, and checking on elderly neighbors or anyone without reliable heat. Pets should not be left outdoors for extended periods.

Travelers should monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary trips during snow showers. Those heading out Thursday evening should allow extra time and carry emergency supplies in their vehicles.
