Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — Light snow is expected to move into areas near and south of the I-68 corridor this afternoon, with potential travel impacts during the evening commute, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

Forecasters said snow is expected to arrive after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the heaviest snowfall rates occurring between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The most persistent snow is forecast primarily south and east of Morgantown, affecting portions of southwest Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and western Maryland.

While snowfall amounts are expected to remain relatively light, the Weather Service cautioned that cold temperatures could allow even minor accumulations to create slick and hazardous road conditions. Travel impacts are most likely during the late afternoon and evening hours when snow overlaps with higher traffic volumes.

The highest snowfall totals are expected in the higher elevations of eastern Tucker County and eastern Preston County, where conditions are more favorable for snow accumulation. Lower elevations may see lighter amounts, but untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses could still become slippery.

Maps released by NWS Pittsburgh show a narrow band of snow accumulation extending along and south of I-68, with little to no snow expected farther north toward Pittsburgh.

Officials advise drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and remain alert for changing road conditions, especially during the evening rush.

For commuters and residents in areas near and south of I-68, officials say brief periods of snow could still have an outsized impact despite limited totals.
