Pittsburgh, PA – Early Friday morning brought cold conditions across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia, with temperatures ranging from the low 40s to near freezing, according to the US National Weather Service Pittsburgh, PA.
Locations such as Cambridge, OH and Kingwood, WV saw lows near 31–33°F, while many areas around Pittsburgh and western PA hovered in the upper 30s to low 40s. Cloud cover and light rain in some areas helped limit radiational cooling and widespread frost formation overnight.
Forecasters explained that clear skies and calm winds typically allow more heat to escape from the surface, leading to colder conditions — a process known as radiational cooling. However, patchy clouds overnight acted as a blanket, keeping temperatures a few degrees higher in some valleys and ridges.
The region will see gradual warming through the day, with highs in the upper 50s and mostly dry conditions continuing into the weekend.
