Pittsburgh, PA – The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh is warning residents of a sharp temperature drop and potential lake-effect snow beginning Thanksgiving night and continuing into Friday, as a strong cold front pushes through western Pennsylvania.

Forecasters say the pattern shift will bring bitter cold and gusty winds, with wind chills dropping into the teens by Friday morning across areas including Pittsburgh, Wheeling, and Morgantown.

While snowfall totals are still being refined, areas north of Pittsburgh and toward Lake Erie face the highest potential for snow impacts, with reduced visibility, slippery roads, and variable travel conditions expected into early Friday.

According to the NWS, temperatures will fall from the 50s Wednesday to the 20s by Friday, producing icy conditions and hazardous travel for those returning from Thanksgiving gatherings. Motorists are urged to plan for slower commutes and allow extra travel time, particularly in higher elevation areas and northwestern counties.

More detailed accumulation forecasts are expected as the system develops Wednesday and Thursday.
