Pittsburgh, PA – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for the Pennsylvania and West Virginia ridges, where snowfall totals above 6 inches are possible Sunday, potentially impacting Interstate 76 and Interstate 68 travel corridors.

According to the US National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, confidence is increasing that a southern storm track will move farther south and east into the Atlantic, favoring snow across higher elevations while limiting accumulations in lower elevations.

Forecasters indicate the heaviest snow is expected along the PA/WV ridges, where terrain influence could push totals above warning criteria of 6 inches. Areas including Uniontown near US-40 and Morgantown along I-68 may see the highest accumulations.

Elsewhere across western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, including Pittsburgh along I-376 and I-79, snowfall amounts are expected to remain lighter, with minimal accumulation mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces due to marginal temperatures.

Precipitation may begin late Saturday night and continue through Monday. Peak accumulation is expected during daylight hours Sunday. Some lowland locations could briefly mix with rain during the day Sunday before transitioning back to snow.

Travel impacts are most likely in elevated terrain, where snow-covered and slippery roads may develop Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Blowing snow could reduce visibility in open areas.

Commuters and students traveling along I-76, US-30, and mountain routes may experience slower travel times during peak snowfall Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as details on final totals may change depending on the storm track.
