Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Colder temperatures and chances for light snow could create slick travel conditions today and Thursday along I-376 and I-79.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, colder air will settle across western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia through Thursday. Light snow is possible at times, and patchy freezing drizzle may develop in ridge areas from this morning into the afternoon.
Forecast highs Wednesday will range from the upper 20s to near 30 degrees across Pittsburgh, Wheeling, and Morgantown, with overnight lows dipping into the lower 20s. Thursday will remain cold, with highs generally in the 20s before temperatures begin to moderate.
Drivers along Interstate 376 through Pittsburgh, Interstate 79 toward Morgantown, Interstate 70 near Wheeling, and U.S. Route 30 in Westmoreland County may encounter brief snow showers or light icing, particularly on bridges and untreated secondary roads.
By Friday, temperatures are expected to rise above freezing for most areas, with highs climbing into the low to mid-30s and continuing to warm into the weekend. The gradual warmup should reduce widespread icing concerns heading into Saturday and Sunday.
While snowfall totals appear light, even minor accumulations combined with freezing drizzle could produce localized slick spots during peak commute hours.
Commuters, school districts, and delivery drivers should monitor updated forecasts for changes in precipitation timing.
