As we approach the start of December, Pittsburgh is preparing for its first real taste of winter weather. Starting this afternoon, temperatures will continue to drop, and by Sunday snow is likely. Winds will pick up, and you’ll feel the chill as the first snowflakes are expected to fall after 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

A snowy mix is forecast for Sunday, with the chance of accumulation reaching up to a half-inch in some areas. Travelers heading home from Thanksgiving should anticipate slick roads and delayed conditions, especially in the northern counties. Temperatures will remain in the low 30s to mid-40s through the weekend, so black ice could form on bridges and overpasses as early as Sunday night. Monday night, we’ll see a cold snap bringing chilly overnight lows in the upper 20s.

The winter weather alert will stretch through Monday as light snow showers continue with another inch of snow possible on Tuesday. Monday’s morning commute will be impacted, especially on routes like I-376 and I-79, where visibility could drop due to snow showers.

Five-Day Outlook for Pittsburgh:

  • Today: Increasing clouds, high near 40°F.
  • Tonight: Snow likely, low around 31°F.
  • Sunday: High 45°F, snow likely after 10 a.m.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy, high near 36°F.
  • Tuesday: Snow likely, high near 38°F.
