PITTSBURGH — Theaters across Pittsburgh are opening, continuing, and closing productions throughout October, offering residents a wide range of performances to enjoy this fall from professional stages to School of Drama departments.

City Theatre’s Another Kind of Silence by L M Feldman

Another Kind of Silence is a bilingual and bicultural queer love story performed in both American Sign Language and English. The play presents the difficulties of love, communication, and authenticity, running from Wednesday, Oct. 8, to Sunday, Oct. 12, with a matinee performance.

City Theatre emphasizes that this is a show focused on connection rooted in accessibility and the distinctive power of live theatre.

“It’s been ten years since a play has been produced in signed ASL and spoken English of this size in America,” said Director Kim Weild.

The theater offers discounted ticket prices through the week, events where audiences can talk to production, and offers a City Connects Night where residents can learn about accessibility in everyday devices.

Pittsburgh Public Theater’s Noises Off by Michael Frayn

Michael Frayn’s Noises Off continues at the O’Reilly Theater from Tuesday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 19, under the direction of Margot Bordelon. The Pittsburgh Public Theater production showcases a distinguished cast and creative team, including Don Wadsworth, Rowan Vickers, Wali Jamal, and Stewart Blackwood.

The comedy follows a troupe of actors attempting to stage a play where everything hilariously goes wrong. Group ticket discounts and special offers are available for theatergoers.

Regional Musical Productions

The Strand Theater will present Chiller Theatre: The Musical from Oct. 17-19. Pittsburgh Musical Theater continues Evil Dead: The Musical through Oct. 25, while the Benedum Center continues its production of SIX until Oct. 17.

Both Chiller Theatre and Evil Dead celebrate the Halloween season with spooky themes, eerie settings, and classic monster characters.

University Theatre Productions

Drama departments at Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, and Point Park University are entering production season with Greek classics, school festivals, one-act plays, and new works written by emerging playwrights.

CMU presents The House of Bernada Alba from Wednesday, Oct. 8 through Saturday, Oct. 11, while Point Park University stages Lysistrata at the Pittsburgh Playhouse from Thursday, Oct. 9, through Sunday, Oct. 19.
