Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — Snow showers moving through the Pittsburgh area today are expected to produce mostly light accumulations, though brief heavier bursts could lead to localized impacts.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, most locations will see occasional snow showers, generally resulting in light snowfall totals. However, forecasters caution that one or two narrow snow bands could develop, potentially leading to higher accumulations, especially in northwestern Pennsylvania and higher terrain near the region.
These narrow bands can produce short periods of heavier snowfall, quickly reducing visibility and causing slick road conditions, even if surrounding areas see little accumulation. Because of their localized nature, impacts can vary significantly over short distances.
The National Weather Service is asking residents to submit snowfall measurements to help track where heavier snow is occurring and to improve forecast accuracy. Reports can be shared:

- Online at weather.gov/pbz/reports
Officials stress that accurate measurements should be taken on flat, unsheltered surfaces, away from buildings and drifts, using a ruler or yardstick placed straight down to the ground.
Drivers are urged to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, particularly during heavier snow bursts, and to slow down when visibility drops.
This update is especially relevant for commuters, delivery drivers, and residents in higher-elevation neighborhoods, where brief heavy snow could lead to more noticeable travel impacts.
