PITTSBURGH — Hispanic Heritage Month, a nationally recognized celebration of Latin culture from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, will be highlighted this weekend at the Andy Warhol Museum. The museum will host a Hispanic Heritage Celebration Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free with museum entry.
Live Latin music, dance performances, Spanish-language tours, and silk-screen printing at the Factory, the museum’s all-ages hands-on art studio, are featured events and activities. Visitors can also join in on the celebration with Los Sabrosos Dance Company’s lessons at noon.
“We are not just good at dancing. We are really good at teaching,” the company said in a statement. “Many of our instructors have backgrounds in teaching and education, and several have earned their master’s or doctoral degrees.”
According to the company, the event will provide culturally significant lessons that highlight Latin heritage. Los Sabrosos Dance Co. is a member of the Pittsburgh Salsa Roundtable, a nonprofit organization that promotes salsa and Latin dancing throughout the city.
Hugo Cruz and Caminos will perform at 2 p.m. in the Warhol Theater. Cruz, a Cuban-born and internationally renowned musician, blends jazz, funk, R&B, and traditional Cuban music.
Celebrations, events, and festivals continue around the city in honor of heritage month. The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host a presentation on Pirates star Roberto Clemente on Oct. 11, a crafting workshop on Guatemalan worry dolls on Oct. 15, and a zine-making class for children focused on Latin culture.
Ascender will host their annual Latine celebration for Latin entrepreneurs and businesses. Trace Brewing will house the event, supply food and drinks, and donate $1 from all drink purchases from 5 to 9 p.m. to Ascender.
