Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across western Pennsylvania, east-central Ohio, and northern West Virginia are waking up to freezing temperatures this morning, as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh has issued a Freeze Warning in effect until 9 a.m. EDT Sunday.
According to the NWS, temperatures have dipped as low as 27 degrees in several areas, including Butler, Washington, Morgantown, Zanesville, and Coshocton. The coldest readings are expected through sunrise, with widespread frost forming across valleys and open fields.
“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” forecasters warned early Sunday. Residents are urged to cover plants and insulate exposed pipes until temperatures rise later in the morning.
The warning covers parts of southwest and western Pennsylvania, east-central Ohio, and northern West Virginia, affecting communities from Pittsburgh to Dover and Morgantown. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 40s and 50s by afternoon, offering temporary relief before another cold night on Monday.
