PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Western Pennsylvania is bracing for its first widespread frost of the Fall season as temperatures plunge into the 30s early Thursday morning. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Frost Advisory from midnight through 9 a.m. Thursday, warning that sensitive vegetation could be damaged or killed if left uncovered.

According to the NWS, the advisory covers much of western and southwestern Pennsylvania, including Allegheny, Butler, Washington, Beaver, and Westmoreland counties. Drivers along I-79 and I-376 should prepare for patchy fog and frosty bridges early Thursday, especially in low-lying valleys. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover tender crops tonight to prevent cold damage.

Temperatures will rebound by late Thursday as sunshine returns, with highs climbing into the low 60s. Friday looks seasonably cool but bright, with highs near 65°F and light winds — a welcome shift for outdoor events and early Fall foliage viewing.

Looking ahead, forecasters expect a warmer weekend with highs returning to the 70s by Saturday. However, cloud cover and scattered showers may move in Saturday night into Sunday as a weak system crosses the Ohio Valley. Despite that, no additional freezes are anticipated through early next week.

For now, the brief chill serves as a clear reminder that Fall has arrived across western Pennsylvania. Homeowners are encouraged to disconnect garden hoses, protect outdoor faucets, and prepare for more crisp mornings ahead.
