Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Dangerous wind chills and gusty winds are expected to impact travel across the Pittsburgh area starting Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Cold Weather Advisory has been issued from 9 p.m. Monday through noon Tuesday for much of western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County. The advisory follows a briefing released Sunday afternoon outlining hazardous cold and wind conditions.

Forecasters say wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected Monday, with temperatures dropping sharply overnight. Combined with strong winds, wind chill values are forecast to range from 10 to 15 degrees below zero by early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service warns that these conditions may create hazardous driving along Interstate 79, Interstate 376, Interstate 279, and surrounding bridges and elevated roadways, where sudden gusts can affect vehicle control. Snow showers Monday may also briefly reduce visibility, with quick accumulations possible during heavier bursts.

Tuesday’s conditions are expected to remain cold, with wind gusts generally between 20 and 25 mph, keeping wind chills well below zero through the morning commute before gradually improving later in the day.

Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, wear layered clothing, and ensure pets and vulnerable populations are protected from the cold. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions.

The National Weather Service emphasized that while snowfall amounts are expected to remain limited, wind and cold will be the primary hazards through Tuesday morning.
